Does Jaguar currently offer an all-electric car?
With the success of Tesla and the recent debuts of all-electric models from other automakers, many high-performance luxury car enthusiasts may be wondering, “Does Jaguar currently offer an all-electric car?” Continue reading to find out.
Jaguar and All-Electric Formula E Championship
Jaguar does not currently offer a commercially-available all-electric car. However, starting in Autumn 2016, Jaguar returns to global motorsport as a manufacturer in the all-electric FIA Formula E World Championship, confirming its electric future. Precision engineered to withstand Formula E’s punishing city-center-circuits at speeds up to 140 mph, the new electric racecar heralds the next generation of Jaguar racing experience.
Jaguar’s Future Plans for Electric Cars
Jaguar is partnering with Williams Advanced Engineering, a company with which Jaguar Land Rover already has a long-term relationship, having previously collaborated on the development of the Jaguar C-X75 hybrid supercar. Williams Advanced Engineering will work with Jaguar’s Formula E team, providing extensive motorsport knowledge and sharing their experience in successfully developing high performance EV Systems.
The all-electric Formula E, unlike other forms of motorsport, will provide Jaguar with a real-world performance test bed to develop its future EV powertrains, pushing the boundaries of electric technology in an intensely competitive, high performance environment. Jaguar’s Formula E team will be able to draw upon the massive resource of over 8,000 Jaguar Land Rover engineers, many of whom will work closely with the race operations team. Those engineers will not only be able to apply their knowledge within the race team environment but, crucially, use the experience to extract data that will directly aid the development of Jaguar’s future electric cars.
